Unsafe London

Tuesday mid-night, I was waken by shouting from downstairs. I got up and watched out of the window. Four men were shouting in the dark right under my window on the pavement. Two of them run away, one of them lying on the ground, and the police is holding a gun toward them. From their shouting, I could tell that one man was stabbed. The policeman caught the one lying on the ground. From then on, the police had cleared and blocked this area and kept shouting that this was a crime scene.

I don't believe this has happened in the central London, right under my nose, though crime is very much in the news. Everyday, someone is either stabbed or killed or.......

What happen to London? Let's get back home!!!

迅雷怎么了？下载速度那么慢

国内ADSL用户的带宽一般都是1M、2M、3M的，理论上的下载速度分别是128K/S、256K/S、384K/S。突发速度会更高。 如果用户在下载时速度能达到理论值那绝对是爽，可是有些朋友反映，他们从来没有达到过这个下载速度，是什么原因呢？是迅雷软件的问题吗？还是你的等级太低？或者怀疑自己的电脑配置太差劲？ 只要迅雷资源没问题，迅雷的新版本是绝对能达到这个下载速度的，对于ADSL用户来说，不要怀疑迅雷的软件问题。至于级别，个人认为只是好玩而已，一般不登陆雷区自动搜索的资源也用不了。至于电脑配置问题，我想现在没有286了吧~所以，硬件也不是问题所在。 下面提供几种简单的方法来提高你的下载速度，如果效果明显，你就顶一下本帖。

1.不要把迅雷安装在系统分区：系统分区是Windows操作系统的“老巢”每执行一个任务，都要扫描此分区。迅雷默认安装是系统分区，安装时可以安装到其他分区，可以在一定层次上避免影响系统稳定性和提高迅雷的执行速度。同上，默认下载目录也不要指定在系统分区。

2..修改系统TCP连接数：为了安全起见，Windows XP SP2将TCP连接数最多限制为10个，但是却影响下载速度，对BT下载影响更大。迅雷自带“XP系统优化工具”（在迅雷“工具”菜单里），建议修改为最高1024后重新启动电脑。

3.优化配置迅雷参数：在迅雷配置项里，磁盘缓存不要太大，太大将占用更多的物理内存，也将影响系统的执行速度，建议内存512M以下的用户设置低于4096K。线程也要全开。

4.任务数不要开太多，最好低于3个同时进行的任务。

5.关闭“下载完查杀病毒选项”：卡巴斯基的实时监控足以应付下载中和下载后的文件。一般情况下，电影是不带病毒的，带病毒的大多数是rar、 exe格式的文件，建议有经验的用户可以关闭“下载完查杀病毒选项”。这一选项只在多文件下载时拖累系统，其他杀毒软件用户可以斟酌关闭。

6.限制上传速度：不限制上传速度将很大程度上降低你的下载速度。经过试验，限制上传速度为1KB/S时的下载速度为250K/S以上，不限制的话就降低到80~100K/S了。建议限制上传速度为1~5KB/S。

7.停止BT上传：BT下载完成后5.6测试版默认最少继续上传30分钟，目前用户只能在BT任务完成后手动暂停上传了。对于上传速度比较大的用户来说，暂停上传将提高其他任务的下载速度。

8.适时利用“暂停”-“开始”按钮：有时候，任务搜索到的资源超过100个，但是速度却降低了，这个时候，你可以先暂停任务，再开始，让服务器重新搜索资源，这时速度明显上升。此方法95%有效。

9.BT任务时利用“暂停”-“开始”按钮：同上，有时BT资源可能超过1000个，速度一样会慢下来。暂停-开始重新获得高速下载。

10.减少下载的同时打开的IE窗口数量：对于TW多窗口浏览器用户，不要一次打开太多窗口，内存占用上升将影响下载任务的读写。

11.关闭cidaemon.exe进程：这是一个索引服务，为了让你更加快速的查找文件。这个系统进程很占用系统内存，启动了这个服务是会在电脑空闲的时候建立索引的，所以机器会变慢！强制结束这个进程，过一会还会自动启动。你可以通过以下的途径取消该服务：打开“我的电脑”-按“搜索”-“改变首选项”-“制作索引服务”-选“不……” ，最后按确定就行了

British Motor Show Part 2

On Friday, we ventured to the British International Motor Show., which runs at Excel in London's Docklands with the tickets we brought from Ebay. We already prepared to buy tickets at the box office if those tickets were fake. Fortunately, the tickets were alright.

I had been to a motor show in Beijing years ago and I didn't remember much of it apart from crowds of people and glamorous models posing beside cars. At the ExCel, I did not see any models and all the ladies beside the cars were ready to provide you with information of the cars in order to sell them. And you could also check out most of the cars on display by yourself, opening the doors, having a look of the boot, even taking a seat in the driver's seat to feel it, that is something you can never expect in Chinese motor show.

One of the highlights was the Honda motor show which was fantastic. A variety of maneuvers done a group of pro was absolutely stunning. Honda even showed their newly developed robot who could speak and dance.

As a review of the motor show says: In the end there are only two types of vehicle. There's the sort where you sit in the driver's seat and your mate takes a photograph of you (a Bentley or a Hummer) and the sort where sensible chaps check fuel consumption, leg room in the back and the capacity of the boot. (call it a Vauxhall), we took pictures of most of the cool cars we could get our hands on.

I can feel the difference of standard of living between China and the UK. While the motor show in the UK is something most people come to and help them decide which car they are going buy, it is still like a showroom of the most advance cars to Chinese people who will never afford them.

干炒牛河

This seems to be a very popular Cantonese dish. We can see that from Hong Kong modern films . Kai likes it very much recently by watching quite a few Hong Kong films. :) After having tried some in Chinese restaurants, I decided to make it myself.

The recipe is as follows:


材料：

河粉，牛肉，葱，豆芽，姜，豉油，生粉，老抽，生抽，糖

制作过程：

1. 将牛肉切片，用豉油和生粉腌半小时。
2. 葱切段，姜切丝。
3. 大火热锅，加油，滑入牛肉，炒至断生，取出待用。
4. 用剩余的油加姜丝和粉炒允。
5. 将牛肉加回，并加入葱段，豆芽炒匀。
6. 加入少许老抽，生抽和糖，翻炒均匀即成。

Tips:

Do not drain the Hofen as it will become very sticky!

Yo! Sushi Bar

Finally, we went to Yo! a Japanese sushi bar last Wednesday. I like the way they serve food. You can choose whatever you like from the selection on the coveyer belt in front of you. It makes more sense than reading the menu full of words and destriptions to a hungry person. At first, I thought it would be a great way of lossing weight as all the dishes come in small plates. The colour plate code system enables you to eat within your budget. After taking a number of different colour plates off the belt, I thought it was not going to work. You keep looking on the belt expecting to find something new while chewing and intend to try different dish whatever the plate colour is. I was stuffed when we started to count how many plates we had got.

I wonder why Japanese cuisine is much more expensive than Chinese. The Japanese food is claimed much healthier than Chinese dish. However, apart from the sushi, all other stuff are deep-fried which are not healthy at all. What's more, they came in smaller dish than Chinese. Probably, because of the strong Japanese economy or culture or service or whaterever.

充气娃娃之恋 Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

影片故事不算吸引人，演员表演更一般。虽然有人说这个角色是给男主角量身定做的，我看很一般。Giovanni Ribisi 演自闭患者效果更好也许。感觉很一般。印象最深的角色是 Lars 的医生，最厌烦的角色，Lars。印象最深的一句台词(医生的)：so you have problems of people touching you.

Cooking

Kai just uploaded all the pictures of food we had cooked up to now. Actually, there are a lot more food that we haven't taken picture of as we were too hungry to take picture.

Before I came to the UK, I had no idea of how to cook at all. My mum and dad are always there taking care of me. No need to worry about food. Since I came to the UK, life became more difficult in terms of food. I know I need to learn how to cook to feed Kai and myself. Kai has been living in the UK for nearly 9 years by himself, so he learned to cook through all those years.

Before he taught me how to cook, he made amazing food for me. I was curious about how he made the food and took interest in learning it. Kai, of course, was very keen to teach me. I can see he was very proud of being an expert in cooking. Since I graduated, I have a lot of free time at home and started to take care of the whole family, house chores and cooking.

Kai is quite supportive to my cooking, agree to buy me all the cooking utensils, ingredients and cookbooks?. I know why this is the only hobby of mine he backs up completely.

I like to make a lot food so he can bring some the next day to school for lunch to share with his lunch buddies and get feedback from them through Kai.

Although Kai is my first cooking teacher, I don't consult him for recipes any more. Internet is a great source of information, full of recipes and even cooking videos. I like to try different recipes, Chinese, western, exotics......

Devil May Care

Devil May Care has been published to celebrate the Centenary of Ian Fleming's birth. This has been written by one of Britain's most admired novelists, Sebastian Faulks.

It's better than the previous books written by Ian Fleming. I can't argue that it is Ian who created this remarkable figure. I tried to read the Casino Royale after watching the movie in cinema. I found it difficult to understand due to the fact that there is more narrations than coversations which is a good way to make the image of James as a hero with everthing under control.

I guess the 007 movies make me to expect more in the books. You can't really find all the cool devices and weapons in the 007 books written in the mid 1900.

Devil May Care is similar to to previous 007 story with modern language. James works alone following orders from M and everthing like weapons and devises have been arranged for him. There has always been someone who is familiarized with the situation to help him and give him more detailed information. His enemies have a lot in common, scientific freaks, weapon or drug traffickers who are determined to destroyed or control the whole world. No matter how powerful they are and what approaches they intend to make use of, they all will be defeated by James Bond eventually. After each mission, James will enjoy his holiday with his new Bond girl which is like a bonus for him.

Devil May Care is easy to read. The story is very fluent. James is a self-displined man, very brave and alway on alert. He has a lot of guts to challenge his enemy face to face. It's amazing to know that the M16 headquarter is close to Regents Park which brings the story to life.

BBC Sport's Olympics Monkey movie

The animated sequence will feature on TV, radio, web and mobile, introducing coverage of the Games on BBC Sport - the Olympic broadcaster in the UK.

The animated charaters are extremely disgusting and unacceptable. How can they make the monkey, pigsy and sandy so ugly??? Those are the characters that should be absolutely cute and funny.

And why are they coming to the Olympics? To cause chaos like what they did in the heaven?

I don't like the animation at all. It makes me feel sick.

对电影《机器人总动员》(Cars) 的一句话影评

Kai:

这片子很久就说要看了，不错，很好的一部pixar的作品，很人性化，主题很想上，保持pixar的一贯水平，值得看！印象最深的角色是轮胎店的小拖车，一句台词是 turn right to make a left!

Fei:

Just watched the film. It's unbelievable! The race car looks so shining. The story is nothing new. The red car is too egocentric at first to notice things that are more important around him and needs some one to teach him a lesson. Anyway, it's a happy ending, of course.

Wonder since when Kai shows interest in animated movies? :)

对电影《天堂电影院》(cinema paradiso) 的一句话影评

经典之作。影片很细腻，有点长。有点像放牛班的春天。最喜欢的角色是电影院的老板，台词因为是意大利话，听不懂，所以没有。

对电影《肥仔快跑》(Run fatboy, run) 的一句话影评

情节一般，故事老套。演员也不算精彩。但是故事发生在伦敦，以及伦敦生活的写照。所以看起来很有亲切感。hot fuzz之后看这个，总觉得男主人公有点别扭，也许在hf中过酷了。女主人公有模仿英国口音的痕迹，不很标准，还不如保留美音。

Fei:

Animation made by pixar. It's ok. Kai likes it so much. He did a research of all the films made by pixar so far and he talked on and on about how good this film is going to be, blah, blah, blah.......

I think the only thing that worth mentioning is that for animation of the robots and objects, if want them to impress the audience, you have to make them to behave like human, even to have emotions.

The ending is very positive: whatever the earth is going to be like, we will never abandon it. We should protect our mother earth.

Kai:

不错，没让我失望！比以前的作品有过之而无不及。电影构思是个看点。动画人物创作上还是保持了卡通人物人性化的做法。印象最深的角色是清洁小机器人，台词是（虽然没多少）eeeeva!

Hell boy

Fei:

What a fantastic film! The H.B. is so cool. No matter how strong his enemy is, he does't give it a damn. The final fight is OK. The story makes me think that the badies are to strong to be defeated. Eventually, they are destroyed, like always.

Most fabulous line: Red means stop!

Looking forward to the sequal.

Kai:

故事挺另类的，想法不算新，但是演员演的比较有新意。一个字，酷！给人的感觉是不太一样的科幻英雄主义。喜欢的角色是hellboy，比较有印象的一句台词：Oh, crap!

British motor show

Just bought tickets for British motor show from ebay, one day event. It is a car exhibition + live shows, so should be fun. Price on ebay is much cheaper than on face. We will see if the tickets are valid or not. Planning to go on Friday, first pop up in the office, then around 10am we go.

How to behave like Brits

On yesterday's newspaper, there is an article on how to behave like Britis. It provides guidelines on how to fit in with Brits:

1. Talk about weather
2. Enjoy a nice cuppa
3. Say' please' and 'thank you' a lot
4. Grow your own veg
5. Take up rambling

That is so typical of British people. There is another thing that should be added to the list:

The office

I always wanted to watch a British TV programme, althought they are not as popular as American.

The office was made by BBC which is extremely boring. It is shot againt the office environment where people behave strangely. For me, it's not funny at all. Probably that is the real office work!

Very cool movie. I am impressed by the fact that PR changed the image of a super hero dramatically. It is so sad that the two lovers can not be together at the end, even they can live their own life.Are there superheroes out there? Seems like the world is so unsafe and insecure that we need some extraordinary heroes to save us!

欢快，搞笑，背景美丽，演员唱功一般，但看完了很振奋。最喜欢的角色高个瘦骨的女人，最厌烦的角色新郎，印象最深的一句台词，没有。

It's ok. Not as well as hairspray. Second musical movie I have seen so far. Meryl Streep who plays Donna looks horrible without makeup. I like her in the devil wears prada more. Pierce Brosnan was so funny in the movie, and he even opens his mouth to sing a few lines, which made everyone laugh in the cinema. We still can not forget him in 007. He is not suitable for the comic musical. He looks so cool and grave though.

酱烧茄子

I made the aubergine last night using the following recipe. It is great that the aubergine was cooked in the microwave oven rather than deep fried which is less healthy. I like aubergine very much and have been looking for recipe of cooking it. I am absolutely satisfied with this recipe. We ate it as a sauce with pasta, as I made it a bit salty.

Kai brought it to school as lunch and shared with his friends today. All of them were thumbs up!!!

配料：

1 姜蓉，蒜蓉，葱花

2 肉餡加上料酒，胡椒粉，盐和麻油还有一点芡粉拌好

3 豆瓣酱剁碎

做法:

1 将油烧热， 把肉馅炒散，然后加入姜蓉，蒜蓉，一点葱，和豆酱炒香，撒上一大匙的辣椒面

2 把茄子切成条， 放到微波炉转两分钟

3 将茄子倒入锅中和肉馅一起翻炒，倒入两杯的chicken broth

4 加盖焖煮差不多15分钟

5 然后倒入一点点的酱油，糖调味

6 收汁收得差不多的时候可以勾薄薄的芡

Digital TV

I am thrilled that I can watch ditigal TV at home. For the past year, we couldn't watch ditigal TV with our 32''. Kai has tried a great number of aerials, but none of them worked. We nearly gave up. Don't know why our area is not covered by BT signal. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to give it one last try. Our friends came and helped us with the aerial. They reached far out of the window and find signals in every direction. The best postion is close to the pipe next to our window. The next day, our next door neighbour came and asked what it was. He thought it was CCTV. We told him that it was outdoor aerial for digital TV. Apparently, he can't recieve any digital signal at home either.

I am going to watch Beijing Olympics this summer on TV.

Seafood feast

Last Saturday, we went to the fish market in Billingsgate in the early morning. I got up at 3 am. It 's worth it. We bought a lot of fish, prawns and two crabs. This time Kai searched on-line for the receipt rather than create something by himself which is great. Ben and Honey were invited over for lunch. I like the crab the most, which was yummy!!!

Garlic Sauce

Garlic (small pieces) + salt + suger + chicken stock powder + water + soy sauce, then + hot oil

Then put into microwave for 1 min. Done!

Spring onion ginger crab

- 1. Bowl of Salt+chinese salt+pepper+spring onion+ginger+garlic+corn flour+sesame oil+oyster oil+water

- 2. Deep fried crab

- 3. Oil+spring onion + 1 + 2

Good film. I was moved at the end of the film. It has been a long time since I was moved by films. It's amazing to see how a girl and a middle-aged killer get together so well after the girl's family was killed. The little girl was really smart when she went back from a trip to the grocery shop, she went to Leon's door without even glancing at her house. Natalie Portman was brilliant in the film and she was only 14 years old.

故事情节虽然老套，但是叙述很特别，情节推动设计巧妙，值得看。不太喜欢男主角，还好戏不在他身上。Alba演技一般，片中形象还好。比较喜欢的角色是妈妈的朋友医生，最深印象的一句台词也是他说的 Jack, what the hell happened to you.
