The orphanage

很久没有看需要动脑子的电影了，这部电影算是一部，里面悬念套着悬念，到处是伏笔。非常不错的恐怖片，但是不是吓唬人，恶心人的恐怖，而是真正的精神上的恐怖。我爱看这种，需要后怕的恐怖片。故事情节很紧凑，每一个细节都在后面有体现。设计很巧妙，基本上所有情节都能解释通。需要观众特别认真，才能完全看懂。看来欧洲电影也不能小看。Pans labyrinth 的制作群，个人觉得 Orphanage 更上一步。值得看，稍稍有点恐怖，但是看完了不会后悔。最喜欢的角色是妈妈，印象深刻的台词没有。

Rec

现在真不能小看欧洲电影，这部又是一个冲击。影片一上来就给我一种比较新的感觉，采访的方式倒是一般，但是表现的方式很特别。手摇机器拍摄近身恐怖片不算新了，cloverfield, the diary of death 都是近期类似的作品。但是这部确实令人有置身处地的感觉。（不过手摇机恐怖片也就够了，不能再拍了，没有新意了）除了感觉不太一样以外（也许是西班牙电影的缘故），其他没觉得这部电影有什么特别。故事一般，演员表演地很到位，很真实，值得一提。喜欢的角色没有，台词听不懂，也没什么印象。

Fred Claus

A Christmas film. I don't like Vince Vaughn in this film. I don't like his acting style. He is getting typecast as a rowdy person and acting like a maniac, causing trouble at first. Eventually, he will fix it up. And the film always has a so-called touching ending. It is supposed to be funny. As a matter of fact, it's not funny, and not touching at all.

Kids' movie, 太一般了。Vince Vaughn 贫蛋一个。不喜欢！台词演员都没什么特殊。

红烧肉的做法

1、把买回的五花肉（就是那种瘦肉和肥肉曾层叠状的）切成1厘米见方（厚度不管，只管长宽）；
2、锅里放油（多放点），热后放入糖（白糖也可）一勺（可多放点），炒到糊为止（这时候锅里应该在冒浓烟，别怕）。倒入切好的肉和调料（厚片的姜、成瓣（不要弄碎）的蒜头、桂皮、干辣椒、八角、橙子皮（非陈皮）），大火爆炒三分钟，这时肉变成了深红色；
3、加入盐适量、老抽一勺、醋1/5勺、糖半勺、料酒两勺、鸡精半勺、清汤（冷水也可）至淹没肉3毫米，大火煮沸（开始冒香味了）；
4、倒入炖锅小火熬1个半小时，此时汤应很少且呈粘稠状（如果汤太多可大火收汤，但要站在旁边看着），加入青椒（不是很肥的那种灯笼椒），可加点香菜，然后尝一下咸淡，再炖3分钟。
5、在口水滴到锅里前把菜上桌，并在别人不知道的前提下偷偷地再吃一块。

You don't want to mess with Zohan

不知道为什么这部影片评分很低，但是我觉得很好看, 很搞笑。还是ADAM的搞笑风格，憨傻中带点无厘头。还是Rob Schneider 在里面配角。这部电影笑点很多，trailer里面出现了很少一部分，所以电影没被毁。看点也很多，中东口音，disco音乐伴舞，zohan非人举动，对中东国家的讽刺。这么紧张的话题，用喜剧很轻松地表现，编剧确实很大胆。最喜欢的角色是zohan，一句台词是zohan的："I want to cut ['hai er]."

Fei:
Most hilarious film. Based on Israeli - Palestinian conflict. Even though the trailer gives away a lot of funny lines. The whole film is terrific. I really enjoy this kind of film.

Down River

A very well written book. The author is an American who was born in North Carolina . He has degrees in French, accounting and law, and worked as a banker, stockbroker and attorney before beginning his writing career.

This book is among the Richard &Judy's book club short listed books. And it is on the paperback chart for quite a while. I always judge the book by the cover. So this time I tried it for a change to see if it is better than others.

The story is taking place in a county near California. I am not sure if it can be classified as a thriller. But it certainly is a crime book. The whole story has been reveal by the main character Adam who tries to get to the bottom of a series of crime taking place in the county. It is based on the relationship between son and father who fell out twenty years ago because a crime happened in the county. Adam was convicted by his step mother for killing a boy. Although he was not sentenced, he had no choice but to leave the county. 20 years later, he came back and no one knows why he's back. He is back because of a call from his closed friend Danny. Grace , his old friend, was attacked. Danny's body has been found after a couple month of death. Danny's father suicide. In order to get to the bottom of this, he follows the clues and investigates. Eventually, he even found out the real criminal of 20 years ago.

It's very unpredictable and typical. The most likely suspect usually is not the criminal while as the shy and nice person who is less described is the criminal.

Read a bit about others' review on this book before I continue my review. It seems everyone has his own opinion about it. Anyway, it's difficult for my to say weather this book is well-written or not in terms of language, since English is not my first language. But the story is very interesting and absorbing. Perhaps I shall choose my book to read according to the chart in future.

Beijng Olympics Closing Ceremony

Watched the Beijing Olympics closing ceremony at home with Kai over a bowl of boiled peanut and sushi. It was a great presentation to the whole world. China has shown what it can do and what it is to the whole world. Though the closing ceremony is not as impressive as the opening, it is still fantastic. The British commentators stopped condemning China prejudicially during the closing ceremony. Obliviously, the Olympics opening and the last two weeks has changed the image of China in their mind and improved the understanding tremendously. Unfortunately, it's finished so soon. But I am confident China will continue growing rapidly. It's just started. It can not be denied that Olympics has accelerated the development of China.

A fantastic film. It makes me think what makes a good film. The story is key. Without a good story, great visual and audio effect or even celebrity starring is meaningless. It's also a funny film. Really enjoyed it. Favourite line: the game is over when I say it's over.

Kai:

不错，不太一样的搞笑特工。Steve Carell，绅士幽默，越来越有自己的风格。这应该是能上得了台面的喜剧演员。（另外上不了台面的，比如 Jim Carry, Will Ferrell, Jack Black）。比较有印象的角色没有，台词是Steve的：This is in my report, page 204, has anyone read my report?

My old place

Best Chinese restaurant in London. It's located in Bethnal Green. A bit far from where we live. But it worth travelling. The New chain of this restaurant is in Liverpool street. It is not as good as the old one, although it's closer. Kai, Ben, Honey, Bowen and I went there this Friday for dinner. The food is brilliant and we have large portions. Their signature dish is lamb barbecue which is to die for. I can't help but eat too much. I can't resist in front of such amazing meal. Hope we can go back sometime soon.

Nim's island

Kids film with Jodie Foster starring in it. I read the book before watching the film which is better than the book. The modern adaptation adds to the story making it less boring. But I think Jodie is overreacting as a writer who is afraid of the outside world. The imaginary figure Alex Rover from her book is the brave Jodie. Having him in the film, Jodie is trying to challenge herself. I don't like the life on the island. It's so isolated to the rest of the world and so fall behind, though they have satellite and computer and it's closed to nature. Perhaps I would like to have a holiday there but not to spend my whole life on an island, no matter how beautiful it is.

低成本，小制作。演员表演夸张，做作。Foster演喜剧，不喜欢。她绝对是演技派的演员。沉默的羔羊，无可挑剔。现在居然演这种电影。最近的 the brave one, 没看过。Flightplan 演得也很不错啊。印象比较深的角色没有。台词是过飞机安检的时候检查人员的一句：Wat e thees? Nut allud! (What are these? Not allowed)

Hell Boy II

Once I watched the Hell Boy I, I can't wait to watch the sequel. However, I am not impressed by the sequel which is directed by Guillermo del Toro who directed Pan's Labyrinth. I don't like all kinds of shapes of creatures. The relationship between Liz and Red is moving forward, though it's lack of feeling between lovers. Red is still cool. The story is similar to the previous one. I guess all the superhero movies is like that, stand against different enemies. I just have too much of it.

Kai:
故事一般，但是表演风格就是不一样，很幽默，很酷。打斗场面强过前一集，更多的新出来的怪兽，值得看！喜欢的角色是hellboy, 记得住的一句台词是Hellboy和大铁拳对打时说的一句：I wouldnt do that if I were you!

Felon 一句影评

比较典型的监狱电影的套路：无辜进来，想不惹事却被事惹。监管同样得是个混蛋。有一个很仗义的老油条犯人照顾着。很像香港的老片《监狱风云》，周润发和梁家辉。虽然是老情节，但还是很动情。影片中很多亲情和爱情的灌注，很现实的社会写照。影片很好看，演员演地也很好。男女主人公感觉都不错。另外，配角也值得一提：岳母虽然话不多，但是简单两句对白立刻带出了人物性格，表现出做母亲的无奈和对自己女儿的疼爱。印象比较深刻的角色是Golden，老监狱长，最后和男主人公的对话，一方面体现出作为监狱长不能对犯人（John）的死表现出过多的情感，但同时又在轻描淡写的言语中带出了自己失去了一个好友内心中的悲痛，表面上却又要极力掩饰，很看演员功夫。印象比较深刻的对白是男主人公最后被带到Yard前对新人警卫说的一句话：Why do you care, you are just like them. (If not) then do something about it.

New World Restaurant

New World Restaurant is located in China Town where we frequent regularly for food and movies. We had lunch there yesterday. Just some Dim Sum. It is the only thing we can have in China Town for lunch besides Rice and Fried noodles. I like the Dim Sum very much. New World Restaurant is well-known and been in China Town for decades. Instead of ordering food from the menus, you can order food from trolleys which are pushed by waitresses around the restaurant. That's the way I like, because you don't have to wait for your food to be cooked after ordering it. You can pick up you like from the trolleys and the waitresses will make a note of it. However, they did have a large variety of Dim Sum there and it's a bit expensive. I ate too much and too fast, for I was starving. It's not a good way to lose weight by eating when you are starving. You will end up eating more than you can chew and feeling uncomfortable afterwards.

Two years in London

I have been in London for exact two years until today. I first step on England on 15th Aug 2006. That was the first time I left home and started living on my own. My life has completely changed since then. I learned how to live independently, how to take care of myself to some extent (Kai has always been there for me) and how to take care of Kai. During the last two years, I finished my postgraduate study and got married. If I hadn't come to the UK, I would now have graduated from NACTA and probably work in an arts organization and still live with my parents. Life in the UK is not as good as many people in China image. It's almost the same as in China, studying, eating, sleeping, watching TV and hanging out with friends. The only thing that different is the environment where you deal with people with different backgrounds and in English. As a matter of fact, I don't speak much English everyday. I have never thought what life will be in the future, since we are in the UK and everything is so unpredictable. But I believe that whether we are here or back in China, we will always lead a happy and exciting life.

Penelope

A romantic story of a girl who has a snout. The story delivers a strong message of accept yourself the way you are. The girl's mom has been tried really hard to find a way of breaking the curse. She believes that marrying a upper class bachelor could break the curse and even hires a matchmaker. The matchmaking is a farce and all of the bachelors were scared away by Penelope's look. Penelope is desperate to marry someone to break the curse. She also wants freedom from her mom. For these years, she has been forbidden to go out. Max who was regarded as a blue blood by mistake wants to help Penelope. Finally, the curse is broken by accepting the way she is rather than marrying. It's a sweet story. Favorite line: I love myself the way I am.

Kai:

青春浪漫喜剧爱情故事，英国伦敦为背景，美国演员加盟。故事很一般，表演也不是很出色。小侏儒居然演了回好人。印象深刻的角色是妈妈，一句台词也是妈妈的：Dont you realise that you are just a walking pig!!

Beijing Olympics

Every morning, the first thing I do is switch on my computer and log onto Beijing Olympics official website to see how many gold metals China have got. China has got the most metals so far. The US is a very strong competitor, while Russia doesn't do very well, for the fact that it's at war with Gorgia. I am so proud of China and our athletes. We still have a long way to go. China Add Fuel!!!

The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor

I am disappointed by this film which is far worse than the first two. Although it takes place in China, nothing new about this film. Still mummy from ancient times who has been dug up revives and seeks for immortality. The history of China in the film is false. Jet Li's performance is appalling.

However, it's a good time for this film. The terracotta warrior showed in British museum early this year. Briton might come to see this film after seeing the exhibition for they have got some idea of that part of the China's history.

Kai:

如果没看过第2集，也许还能接受。但是看了第2集，不会觉得有什么新东西。故事，人物，电影情节设计，等等等等都和前一集很雷同。感觉没什么看头。最喜欢的角色，没有，影响最深的一句台词是uncle john的：I hate mummies, they never play fair!

对电影《南极大冒险》Eight below 的一句话影评

看过很多动物的电影，这部应该是我看过的比较好的一部。很早就看过狗的电影或电视剧，警犬卡尔等等，但是这部电影把动物电影又搬上了一个台阶。电影难在表现动物与动物之间的表演。这种人无法控制的拍摄，很要功夫。不错的电影，值得推荐！ 比较喜欢的角色是Maya，比较深刻的一句台词是考古博士的: We gonna have to try for the things we care about.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

Teenager's film addressing the problems that teenagers encounter in their life. It's a British film, suprisingly. However, in still American Sterotype. The most beautiful girl in the school is always mean and fake, while the less good looking girl who has a good heart always gets the boy and has a lot of loyal friends around.

This story takes place in a coastal city in the UK rather than American metropolice where every family lives in a big house no matter how poor they are.

One of the best British films I have seen so far. Most British films are outragous. If it's not a scary film, it must be a disaster film. Well, most of them are scary films, like 28 days, 28 weeks... I can't help wondering why British people enjoy watching this kind of films or British directors are keen to shoot this kind of films. Can't they make something good which can be appreciated by majority of people?

英国片子里面算是比较正常的，向上的。比起美国的青春片差远了。但是多少能反映出英国人的文化。看起来还算亲切。最喜欢的角色是 Jazz（高个女孩），印象最深的一句台词是主人公的：“Dad, I am an adult, I am wearing a bra”

X-File

Having never seen any TV series of X-File, I am really disappointed by the film. I expected to see something like Sex and City film, which has made a blockbuster. The film is appalling. Russian doctors can bring people back to life by transplanting others' body parts. One of the victims is from the Police department. However, the police is trying to look into this case with the help of a priest who apparently is a psychic and has mental connection with the criminal. It is far worse than I expected.

Kai:
原以为会有外星人的介入，结果只是老套的精神通零者。没有电视剧的好看（虽然我没怎么看过电视剧）但是演员演得很好，男女主角很默契，一看就是多年磨合出来的。影响最深的角色是女医生，台词是她对神父说的一句话：'Yeah, you can stop the act now!!'

Sound of Music

Best musical I have seen so far. We have got the best seats and at a very reasonable price. The really useful theatre is absolutely useful. Enjoyed the show very much.

I have watched the film since I was very young. I could sing along some of the songs in the film since then. So I are very familiar with the story. It's a musical for people of all ages, from people who would remember the second world war, to people of my age who grew up with it, to children who would show interest to sing along. The beauty of classic is to be appreciated by all generations.

北京奥运开幕式 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony

7年的准备算是给大家一个完美的交代。虽然西方媒体一再言语诋毁丑化中国，但奥运会开幕式如此的气势，与中国魅力的体现，让所有西方国家看到中国崛起而妒忌人们都闭了嘴。我们在英国看了开幕式，英国的解说员几乎还是一如既往地挖苦和言语讽刺中国，但当看到如此令人振奋的开幕式，解说员自己也不好意思再说下去，只剩下几句发自内心的赞叹。英国人看后越发担心，4年后他们应该怎么举办才能超过中国。他们自叹不如中国在奥运上下的决心，花费的时间，精力，人力和财力。北京一下子“红”了，北京这下子“红”了！！

Our home

Finally, the Olympics Opened in Beijing. The spectacular opening ceremony shut up all the western media. Putting aside all controversial issues such as pollution, human rights and security, they focused on the Olympics itself and prosperous future of China.

The grand Opening Ceremony demonstrated China's splendid history and culture of 5000 years and the advanced development in technology and science. China has made an absolutely tremendous presence to the world.

I am proud of being a Chinese. I am saying it from the bottom of my heart.

Stop criticising China!

I am fed up the western media's biased criticising of China. With one day to go before the Olympics, Britain's TV news report and newspaper are full of prejudice on China and the Olympics. No matter how much effort China has made to the Olympics, western media will see it from their biased angle. They take great joy in criticising China's air quality and human right, rather than focus on the modernization of the city and the state of art facilities and stadium. What are they there for? The western media are enjoying themselves interfere with other country's internal affair which has nothing to do with them. The western media are against the Chinese government based on a tiny minority's dissatisfaction of the government despite the fact that majority of Chinese people are content with the status quo and supportive of China wholeheartedly. China is a vast country with different culture and history from west, one can not expect the same regime as the west which is not necessarily the best. China has made an awful lot of effort to integrate into the world which is dominated by west superpower who invaded China decades ago and still looked down upon China and its citizen as inferior to them. Surely, they are not happy when China is growing unprecedentedly rapid and most likely to catch up with them if not outstrip them in a few years time. Then west is terrified that China is going to dominate the world. They are frightened of the alarming speed of the development of ecomony, science, technoloy and civil defence in China.

赤壁

看完之后有点傻了，原来赤壁可以这样拍。电影到90分钟的时候我有点怀疑，这部电影到底想多长？电视剧版的三国可80多集呢！原来到最后，这是第一集。那干吗叫赤壁啊？影片拍的很多地方想法很奇特，有点不符合逻辑，但是感觉角度挺新颖。比如说小乔给周瑜缠纱布那段戏，不知道怎么两个人拍着拍着就动了情了，是想故意加一些历史人物的原始野性，还是想加点18+的内容，还是什么用意，没太看懂。

林志玲在电影里给我的印象最深，对她我只有一句话：你知道你在这里干什么呢吗？ 看来整部电影的喜剧因素都集中在她身上了。梁朝伟没有什么明显的破绽，扮相一开始看着有点怪，两边头发有点秃，后来看看也习惯了。演技来说还是他一贯的那一套，没什么大改变，把头套摘了，穿上西服，就成花样年华了。金城武感觉还不错，诸葛亮演的倒是不温不火，看来他逐渐能胜任大角色了。张震的孙权还是不行，台湾人说普通话，舌头还是硬，演不出孙权的霸气，看着还是卧虎藏龙里的沙漠土匪样儿。胡军的赵云太一般，戏不多，打得比较烂，大材小用了。关羽更差了，很业余的演员，看相也不行。张飞不错，演鲁智深的演员，虽然没什么词，但是说出来的几句话都还挺到位，就是赤手空拳上战场和敌人肉膊战这点戏有点太过了，不过导演让这么演，就算再不合理，你能说什么呢。赵薇戏有点多，不过还可以，不算烦人，只可惜那么厉害的点穴功在战场上也没用上，有点遗憾。国内的演员演得都还可以，很有节奏，人物刻画地也比较深，比较符合逻辑，张丰毅的曹操，算是能调动起其他演员跟着他演。尤勇的刘备戏不多，但是还算可以。日本的甘宁就太没必要了，汉语说成这样就给他用配音吧，大舌头版的中国话只有会在反映智力有问题的情况下才会用到啊！

总的来说片子可看性不强，许多情节很有争议，想法很独特新颖倒是，不错的茶余饭后调侃的对象。排兵布阵故意炫耀战法兵书的痕迹太重，有点像是给外国人拍的表现中国镇法多么神奇的意思。犯了国外溜了一圈儿的导演的通病。

最喜欢的角色是金城武的诸葛亮，最深刻印象的一句台词的是曹操手下副官再看见曹操和小乔替身的暧昧的一面时说的一句话：原来大哥发动赤壁之战是为了一个女人。

红烧鸡翅

一 准备红烧鸡翅的材料
菜谱主料:鸡翅 400克菜谱调料:大葱 10克 姜 10克 辣椒(红、尖、干) 20克 八角 5克 花椒 5克 酱油 10克 盐 3克 白砂糖 50克 各适量

二、开始做红烧鸡翅
1. 油锅内放入一两白糖，炒到白糖融化，起泡；
2. 泡沫消退，白糖变成金黄色时，放入洗干净的鸡翅，中火翻炒，直到每块鸡翅变成漂亮的金黄色；
3. 放入一些热水，淹没鸡翅就行；
4. 放入调料，用中火把鸡翅炖烂
5. 汤汁变少时改大火把汁收浓，以不干锅为准，起锅装盘。

Life style in the West

I run an errand this afternoon to the nearby little supermarket for some milk. There was a market there. A number of stalls run by Indian selling a variety of things, vegetables, snacks, and daily necessities. These markets and other Indian or Paki stores might sell something specific for Indian. The stall sellers seemed quite happy talking to passers-by.

I had got a sudden feeling. If you want to settle down in London in the future, even if you will be very rich, leading a very good life envious by other Chinese who can't come abroad, you are losing something at the same time. Your lifestyle. You are giving up your very own lifestyle in exchange for Western one.

We will celebrate Christmas and new years with the whole country and people around us, but when it comes to Chinese new year, it will only be a festival for me and Kai, and the city become very quiet about it, like nothing happens. We can only go to Chinese shops for certain Chinese food and eat in the Chinese restaurant when I have a craving for aubergine or Beijing Duck, rather than going shopping in the biggest department stores in Oxford street or Regent street, or eat out in a western gourmet restaurant. I am already fortunate to live close to Chinatown, however, I still feel that the Chinese community is an absolutely small community in London.

I attended a launch of a series of photographs taken in China many years ago reflecting ancient China in Royal geographical society. At the launch I saw those old Chinese people who came here decades ago probably as labours were fascinated about the Chinese dance and music which apparently far less than an amature level in China. I guess they had never have the chance to see and experience the great Chinese culture here in the UK. Even in the year of China Now, I still don't feel much about celebrating Chinese culture apart from hanging lantern in Oxford street or the Terracotta Warrior exhibition in British Museum.

UK is not my mother country, and I don't feel connected to it, althought it is one of the most powerful and advanced countries in the world. That's also the reason why Kai doesn't want to settle down in the UK aside from family reason.

Hot Summer in London

It's been extremely hot recently in London. I have a boiler next to my room which is on all year round. In winters, it's perpect, no doubt, the whole flat is amazingly nice and warm. However, in the hot summer, it's unbearable. I couldn't stand it. Cooking and showering makes the flat even more horrible. The hot air has no way to get out of the flat. What's more, the sunshine is through our windows every day, which makes it even worse. Kai is in his nice office every day which has an air con while I am at home all day every day withstanding the hot air as well as the constant noise coming from the construction site nearby. It's not advisable to get an air con at home, as the summer is amazingly short in the UK. Whereas how can I stand the hot weather in the short summer!!!

Acting up

This novel was written by late Melissa Nathan who was a British writer. I have always wanted to read novels written by British writer, hoping to get some idea of Britain and British English from them.

I was fascinated by the book cover of Acting up, (in fact, that one of the criteria for me to choose a novel.) and the story is taking place in London. I found I was forcing myself to finish it. It's not a very good novel. It's a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. You can always guess what's going to happen next. As far as I am concerned, Jazz is being unacceptably rude to to Harry Noble, just because she overheard him saying Jazz is uglier than her sister and some gossips about Harry from another actor who wants to slander Harry after his Hollywood career was detroyed for treating Harry's sister like dirt. And I don't think there are people like Harry Noble existing in this world who have been nice to Jazz no matter how bad she treats him and would like to give in himself to his most disliked aunt in order to clear the mess of her family. It's not very fascinating at all. Although most the review of this book is quite positive, I guess I just have a different opinion from them.

Phantom of the Opera

I was very excited after watching it. I learned the story from a HongKong film adapted from the Phantom of the opera years ago. But it's a completely different from this musical which is well-know around the world. Acutally, I didn't quite understand the musical, because they talk to each other through singing. However, I could somehow guess what is going on on the stage. It is fantasic. I like the westend theatre, because there is always something extraordinary, expecially the stage design and costume.

The story takes place in a theatre which is haunted by a deformed musical genius Erik known as the 'Opera ghost'. He threatens the manager of the theatre to pay him a monthly salary and reserve him the box 5 at every show. The new opera manager does not give in and thinks this is a practical joke by former manager. Meanwhile, he gives Christine voice lesson who makes rapid progress in her vocal study. I am amazed by the theatres in Westend which is renowned as theatre land. Every night, people from around the world come to the westend theatre to watch performces. Since the Westend end threatres are for tourists, the ticket is very expensive. However, if you know where to go, you can get the ticket a lot cheaper than its original price.

Kai picked up the Phantom of the opera and we enjoyed it very much!!! Good choice.
